- We take a look at what city's around the country are getting up to for Silvester.
In a country where even Ascension Day is a cause for wild partying, you can count on New Year's (or Silvester) to get pretty crazy. To help you sort through the daunting number of options, here's our guide to what's on in Germany next weekend.
As you might expect, the lion's share of Deutschland's New Year's debauchery will take place in Berlin, with the biggest parties at Berghain / Panorama Bar and Tresor. The former has nearly the full cast of resident DJs, plus a few friends of the family (Ben Klock, Marcel Dettmann, Shed, Nick Höppner, Steffi, Prosumer, Deetron, and DVS1 to name just a few). As in past years, all areas of the hulking club will be in full effect, including the usually men-only XXX floor, Laboratory, where Andrew Butler of Hercules & Love Affair is among the guest DJs. Expect that one to go well past lunch on Monday. Tresor will stay true to its techno roots with a cast of artists from Europe and Detroit, including Cari Lekebusch, Pär Grindvik, Mike Dehnert, Octave One and Mike Huckaby.
Fuck Me Now Love Me Later might have the city's lengthiest bill, with more than 30 confirmed artists and the promise of even more "special guests." Highlights from the extensive lineup include The Mole, Sascha Funke, Till von Sein, Hubble and Akiko Kiyama. For something a bit more eclectic, swing by Bodywerk! at Horst Krzbrg for the sounds of Redshape, Blawan, Pangaea, Jimmy Edgar and one of our top labels of the year, Tri Angle. Portable tops the bill over at ://about blank, with Don Williams and Savas Pascalidis also on the two-day schedule. Watergate has rounded up some of its most steadfast regulars for Silvester, including Tiefschwarz, Lee Jones, Mike Shannon and Zander VT. At the newfangled Kreuzberg club Prince Charles, Round Table Knights join Oliver $, Tim Green, Dirty Doering and many more for a 48 hour extravaganza. Meanwhile, Weekend keeps up its New Year's tradition with a Minus showcase: Richie Hawtin, Gaiser, Ambivalent and Barem will take care of the 12th floor, while Matt John, DeWalta and Chica Paula get busy upstairs.
Naturally, the action continues well into (and past) January 1st. Club der Visionäre, newly outfitted for winter conditions, will run for a solid three days with sets from Sonja Moonear, Dandy Jack, Binh, Jan Krueger and most likely a gaggle of other unconfirmed artists. Watergate rumbles on through New Year's Day with Ellen Allien, Butch, 2000 and One and Kiki. Festsaal Kreuzberg will offer up more understated deep house sounds, courtesy of Efdemin, Session Victim and Smallville artists Moomin and Christopher Rau. Frankfurt and Offenbach have some handsome options as well. Hometown hero Sven Vath will headline the main room of his own Cocoon Club, flanked by Pan-Pot, while Karotte, Meat and C-Rock take care of the lounge. U60311 will host the massive 65 Hours of Space party, featuring big names like Sebastien Leger alongside more underground favourites like Dominik Eulberg and Ida Engberg. AKA AKA have been slotted in for a staggering 24-hour set. Over at Tanzhaus West, Margaret Dygas joins Bar25 co-founder Danny Faber. Then there's New Year's Eve at Robert Johnson, whose mysterious "all-stars" lineup should by no means be overlooked. If you're still alive and kicking come January 1st, Sascha Dive and Losoul will headline Connoisseur's secret warehouse party.
Hamburg's Silvester agenda features many of the city's usual suspects. Solomun, Stimming and H.O.S.H. hold it down at their home base, Ego. Smallville artist Dionne will play at Golem, while his label mate Julius Steinhoff shares the bill with Session Victim at Uebel & Gefährlich. Golden Pudel will get a dose of dub techno thanks to Modern Love artist MLZ.
Plenty more is going on in cities around the country. In Cologne you can spend the night with Gabriel Ananda and Riley Reinhold at Artheater, Robert Dietz at Stairs or Dandy Jack and Sonja Moonear at Gewölbe. Those closer to Essen can catch Chez Damier and Tobias Becker at Hotel Shanghai. Monika Kruse shares the bill with Extrawelt and Format B at Alter Güterbahnhof in Freiburg, and Guillaume & The Coutu Dumonts headlines Harry Klein in Münich. CLR bring their steely techno sound to Stuttgart on the 31st, with Tommy Four Seven, Terence Fixmer and label head Chris Liebing all confirmed at Lehmann Club.
