  • Flesh Queer Festival is launching near London in 2022. Billed as "the UK's first queer camping music festival," the two-day event will take place on May 28th and 29th at Springfield Farm in St Albans, around 25 minutes by train from central London. The site, the team told Resident Advisor, "sits within a secluded woodland with streams and ponds." With Flesh, the team wanted to "create a space for people to be able to express themselves" and to "celebrate the LGBTQ+ community and the importance of this kind of event after having been forced away from them because of the lockdown." Regarding the curation, the team added that they were "fed up" with "the same lineups at music festivals" and wanted to "make a radical statement by disrupting the norm and curating the lineup with 100 percent of the artists from underrepresented groups." Confirmed acts include Chippy Nonstop, object blue, LSDXOXO, SPFDJ, Jossy Mitsu, Juliana Huxtable, Wax Wings, Shay Malt, J Aria, Lewis G Burton, VTSS, NIKS, Ifeoluwa, Jaguar, Angel D'Lite, Hyperaktivist, Lady Shaka and Ellen Allien. "One of the driving forces behind Flesh is representation, we want each one of our guests to look at the stage and feel represented, welcomed and inspired," the team said. "That said, we didn't choose our talent to fill quotas or pander to tokenism [...] Flesh is the result of over a year of digging, hard work, research and curation with an approach to representation in an authentic way." In addition to the music, there will be food stalls, pop-up shops, play areas, workshops, panels and an activity tent hosted by Riposte. Find out more via the festival's website. Here's the full lineup.
Flesh is also offering two new QITPOC artist the chance to win a DJ scholarship at London Sound Academy and a slot at the festival in May. No previous DJing experience is necessary, though the chosen candidates must be able to attend one-on-one DJ lessons at a studio in Camden, North London. Apply with a mix or playlist here.
