  • A new LP on Transmigration collects music from the late Susumu Yokota's Ebi alias. The specialist reissue label has compiled works from Yokota's early '90s records for German imprint Space Teddy. Space Teddy Collection houses nine tracks from Transmigration's previous Ebi reissues, Space Teddy EP and Space Teddy EP 2, and presents them as a collectors double pack with liner notes from Space Teddy's Uwe Reineke und Mijk Van Dijk. It will be available from July 9th. "During a dinner in Tokyo," writes Van Dijk in the record's insert, "Yokota-san explained why he chose the project name "Ebi" (Japanese for "shrimp"). He understood the shrimp as the equivalent of House music: the tail is the bass drum, the tickling feet are the hi-hats, the tentacles are the claps and snare, and so on. Yokota-san's music was sometimes colourful and joyous and sometimes monochrome and introvert. Not many musicians are able to express so many emotions only through electronic sound. When he tragically deceased he left a huge gap—not only in the Japanese music scene—which may never be filled again." The cult Japanese artist, who passed away in 2015, was also subject of recent reissue campaigns by P-Vine Records and Cosmic Soup. They followed a 2018 reissue of his seminal LP, Acid Mt.Fuji, by Midgar. Listen to "鶴 Tsuru."
