- 246 Classic & Unreleased Parts One & Two are out in late March.
The late Japanese composer Susumu Yokota's 246 alias will get another look via two new double 12-inch collections on Cosmic Soup.
The prolific artist put out a couple of 12-inches as 246 in 1995 and 1996. The records were released by Reel Musiq and cut by the legendary Ron Murphy at National Sound Corporation in Detroit. It was not initially revealed Yokota was behind the project. Known for his acid, trance and ambient music, 246 was Yokota trying his hand at house.
"Even if his death never happened, it is necessary for these works of his to be reissued now for the world to discover," said Hideo Sakuma, manager of the Technique record store about Yokota, whose dance music (like Acid Mt. Fuji, reissued a few years ago) and ambient works are venerated among heads.
The two Cosmic Soup collections follow a CD-only compilation of 246 material from 2017, but feature slightly different tracklists and unreleased material. They've also been remastered and cut loud for vinyl. They both drop on the same day, March 22nd, and feature the original 246 logo as well as photos taken along the Nakasendo Way walking route by Cosmic Soup head Stewart Allan.
Cosmic Soup has more archival Yokota material on the way as well as releases from the likes of Marc Mac, Wata Igarashi, Gene On Earth and Matthew Herbert. Check out the label's video for 246's "Do Up."
