  • As part of our new Re-record feature focusing on Black artists in electronic music from 2001 through 2020, we're doing a week-long Mix Of The Day takeover. Most people probably first heard SHERELLE with that Rewind heard round the world—the 2019 Boiler Room set that went viral and rocketed her to instant fame. (We picked it as one of the defining mixes of the last decade.) But that set is about so much more than a viral moment. Everything before and after is pure gold, mixing footwork, drum & bass and other uptempo styles with panache and style. Since then she's become one of the UK's most high-profile DJs operating in this sphere, and started the Hooversound with Naina, releasing killer records from artists like Sinistarr, Hyroglifics, Tim Reaper and more. There's something extra powerful about SHERELLE's DJing, something that grabs onto you from the very first beat. You can hear this best on her Dekmantel podcast, a blazing collection of tracks that she calls "80 minutes of pure angst" but is more likely to elicit pure joy from listeners. (A bonus: check out her latest BBC Radio 1 Residency show, featuring legendary DJ Flight.)
