  • The ring modulator section from the Yamaha CS-80 is coming to Eurorack. Named Rachael after the lead replicant character from Bladerunner, whose Vangelis-penned soundtrack famously made a legend of the CS-80, the new module comes courtesy of Black Corporation, which also built the CS-80 clone Deckard's Dream. The CS-80's famous ring modulator section was only available in an expansion module for Deckard's Dream, however, making Rachael its first standalone appearance outside the original 1977 synth. While it functions in typical ring modulator fashion, modulating either two external signals together or against an internal oscillator, it also produces square and a so-called glitch saw waveforms that can play pitches like a regular oscillator. It can also be pushed down into LFO range for modulating other modules even while ring modulation is taking place. There's also a four-stage envelope generator on board, with each stage controllable by external voltages. The news comes soon after the announcement of Deckard's Voice, a single voice version of Black Corporation's Deckard's Dream. There's currently no price or release date available for Rachael.
