  • Substance, AKA DJ Pete, will release an EP called Rise And Shine via Ostgut Ton in January. It's the Berlin native's first solo EP on the label, though he's long had connections to Ostgut, contributing to the Fünf and Zehn compilations and frequently DJing at Berghain. The label says Rise And Shine "sees Kuschnereit fusing his deep, industrial aesthetic as Substance with the resonant bass-heavy leanings of DJ Pete." This is DJ Pete's first release under his Substance alias since his 1998 LP, Session Elements, though he has released as DJ Pete and under his real name, Peter Kuschnereit, in the following years. We recently hosted DJ Pete on our RA Exchange podcast, discussing Ostgut Ton and Berghain, as well as his longstanding posts at Hard Wax and the Wax Treatment parties and his hand in the classic Chain Reaction project Scion.
