- The Deeply Rooted House head turns in the first mix in a new series from Tresor.
Tresor has tapped Parisian house and techno traditionalist DJ Deep to mix the first volume of KERN, a new series kicking off this November.
Translating to "core" in English, KERN asks artists to take a more personal approach to the commercial mix; as the press release describes it, Tresor wants to give DJs "free reign to weave their own story through a mixture of rarities and brand new material." DJ Deep, the Parisian head of Deeply Rooted House, approached the project as a sort of "DJ's diary," looking for tracks he felt would sound relevant regardless of their release date. As such, Kern Vol. 1 combines cuts from newer artists like Shed and Skudge with classics like Armando's "151" and Juan Atkins' (as Visions) "Is This Real?"
Tresor will also release two 12-inches with tracks from the mix. One will feature a bundle of exclusives from Kerri Chandler, Marcelus and Maan, while the other compiles rarities from Deepside, Santonio, Xperiment and "Music In My Head" by A.E.S. (the supergroup of Arthur Forest, Eddie Fowlkes and Santonio), a previously unreleased track from 1993.
