  • A GoFundMe has been set up for Tish Bailey, the vocalist from DJ Deeon's "Freak Like Me." According to the GoFundMe, which was created by Berlin-based artist Sarah Farina last month, Bailey was never credited for her contribution to the ghetto house classic, nor did she receive a fee or royalties. "Tish Bailey, a 54-year-old mother, grandmother, care-giver and community contributor is running out of years and resources while many others continue to earn from her beautiful voice and lyrics," the post reads. "Tish remains invisible to music lovers worldwide, sadly a common systemic problem. We offered to assist Tish in navigating the appropriate channels and began lengthy communications. This fundraiser is step one towards rightful compensation for more than 25 years of lost royalties and recognition." First released on Dance Mania in 1996, "Freak Like Me" is arguably the late DJ Deeon's most popular track. It was later reissued on Numbers, while a 2016 remix version featuring Lee Walker, Katy B and MNEK has amassed 48 million-plus Spotify streams. "Though few know my name or have seen my face, I know I've brought a lil spicy joy to countless people," said Bailey. "That's my life's purpose, so despite any downside, I humbly appreciate the opportunity to reach the hearts of many." In addition to the fundraiser, Bailey and Farina have announced a collaborative EP, Stay Soft, which will come out on April 5th via Bandcamp.
