  • More acts have pulled out of this year's CTM Festival in Berlin. Scratcha DVA, Kampire, Raji Rags and collectives FemmeDecks and Under My Feet. announced their decisions on Instagram and expressed solidarity with the nascent Strike Germany movement. "After speaking with close ones and researching more about the current situation in Germany regarding Israel and Palestine, I realised I shouldn't go around my beliefs for the bag," Scratcha DVA wrote yesterday, January 15th. Also yesterday, Kampire said she no longer feels comfortable playing at CTM "because of the current climate of repression in Germany." FemmeDecks cited Germany's new anti-discrimination clause—which will require recipients of public funding to make a commitment against antisemitism, according to the IHRA definition—as their reason for cancelling. Similarly, Raji Rags dismissed the clause as a method of "silencing pro-Palestinian voices." Under My Feet. encouraged "all international workers to join #strikegermany against German cultural institutions and to keep on sharing solidarity with Palestine." These acts follow Jyoty and Manuka Honey, who both pulled out last week. The festival responded with a statement, saying it "respects the artists' decisions" and remains "steadfast in our support of artistic freedom and dialogue." It's yet to comment on the latest round of withdrawals. Launched last week, Strike Germany is a movement calling for international cultural workers to cease operations with German institutions due to their censorship of pro-Palestinian artists. CTM 2024 will take place from January 26th through February 4th at various venues across Berlin. This year's theme is "sustain."
