Jyoty, Manuka Honey withdraw from Berlin's CTM Festival in solidarity with Strike Germany

- Artists are pulling out of this year's CTM Festival in Berlin in solidarity with the Strike Germany movement. A post by Ravers for Palestine on Instagram confirms that Jyoty and Manuka Honey won't perform at CTM later this month. They were both scheduled to appear at the opening at Berghain on January 26th, playing back-to-back with Skrillex and Safety Trance respectively. CTM has responded with a statement, saying it "respects the artists' decisions" and remains "steadfast in our support of artistic freedom and dialogue." Launched earlier this week partly in opposition to the Berlin Senate's new anti-discrimination clause—which will require recipients of public funding to make a commitment against antisemitism, among other things—Strike Germany is a movement calling for international cultural workers to cease operations with German institutions due to their censorship of pro-Palestinian artists. Hundreds of people have signed up already, including electronic acts such as Kelman Duran, Arabian Panther, Bill Kouligas and WTCHCRFT. New York festival dweller has also shown support for the launch, announcing on January 10th that there won't be a Berlin edition in 2024. Since October 7th, artists in Berlin and across Germany have been facing job losses and online backlash for showing solidarity with Palestine. CTM 2024 is due to run from January 26th through February 4th at various venues across Berlin. This year's theme is "sustain."
