  • Sheffield collective Gut Level has announced a fundraiser to support its new not-for-profit DIY space. "We're opening a cute and sexy not-for-profit DIY space! But we need help to get it open!" the team wrote on Instagram last Friday, June 30th. "We need to raise £50,000 for renovations and start-up costs. A lot of people are feeling the effect of rising costs right now and we understand this is a lot of money to raise. There are lots of different ways to support and we're extremely grateful for any amount of time or money people are able to contribute." The new venue will combine a communal creative space with a roof terrace and community garden, alongside a bar and live music venue with a 2 AM license on Friday and Saturday. Gut Level said its planning application has been approved by the council. "We're in final negotiations on the terms of the lease, but we'll be signing for an initial term of five years, giving our community the stable home we've been searching for." A not-for-profit members club, Gut Level began life as a nightclub for marginalised people back in 2019. After losing its venue last year due to redevelopment, the team has been offering arts events, workshops, communal meals and parties at a new temporary home. Last month, the collective took over The Barbican Centre in London, hosting a month-long exhibition on DIY club culture in the north of England. Donate to the fundraiser.
