  • Moog is celebrating its late founder's birthday. The company has launched a website where you can explore its signature product, the Minimoog Model D. Visitors can watch documentaries about the synth, download plans to build their own one out of paper, access strange Instagram filters that make you look and sound like the synth, and download a free Minimoog smartphone app. The Mini Moog Factory website has a virtual Minimoog, pre-set with sounds from classic tracks. You can use it to recreate songs by the likes of Sun Ra, Kraftwerk and David Bowie, then share your version with others. The site also features an account of the inception of the Minimoog and articles about the synth's impact on funk, hip-hop, prog rock and jazz. The website went live today, May 23rd, which would have been Robert Moog's 89th birthday. Moog, who started the company in 1953, died in 2005, but his legacy has only grown stronger since then. Moog Music, which is now largely employee-owned, reissued a limited run of Minimoogs in 2016. Last year, the company once again put the Model D into full production. Explore the Minimoog Factory, and watch a video about the Minimoog Model D.
