Resident Advisor has set up a new governance board with community representation at its core.
Seven members sit on the board, which has been in the development stage since late 2021. RA's two founders (Nick Sabine and Paul Clement), its new CEO (David Selby) and its head of community (Amy Van Baaren) join three independent directors from the wider electronic music industry.
The directors are London-based producer, educator, music technology consultant and CDR founder Tony Nwachukwu; Lisbon-based Carin Abdulá, director of cultural production agency OUTER and curator and strategist at Tresor in Berlin; and curator, DJ, festival producer and consultant Lauren Goshinski, who lives in New York.
"RA was always set up to be a community-led platform," said Sabine. "By including members of the electronic music community whose background and experience is invaluable, we are decentralising the decision making to ensure alignment of RA's interests with that of the communities we seek to serve. We recognise that not all scenes can be represented by only a few people, so overtime we will be expanding community representation in board-level decision making, reflecting the globally interconnected nature of dance music."
The creation of the board forms part of a wider company restructure at RA. With Sabine and Clement no longer involved in day-to-day operations, David Selby is now CEO. The company has also made numerous new hires, including Kazim Rashid (chief brand and creative officer), Whitney Wei (editor-in-chief) and Andy Lemay (RA Pro partnerships, UK lead).
