- Out next month, the self-titled LP contains samples of video games, movies and political speeches.
The debut album by New Delhi-based producer, DJ and promoter Sanil Sudan, AKA FILM, lands via local label Qilla Records on May 28th.
Influenced by hip-hop and pop production, the self-titled LP touches on breaks, acid, jungle, dub and IDM across 13 tracks. These styles are mixed in with samples of video games, movies and political speeches that represent Sudan's core interests.
Speaking to Resident Advisor, Sudan said the samples "speak about my past (Keanu Reeves talking about death on 'Mother,' an ode to my late mother), present ('Discordia' comments on the current political climate of India) and future ('Formless' nods to the game Metal Gear Solid 2 to paint a dystopian picture)."
FILM follows a slew of singles and EPs on other India-based labels such as boxout.fm recordings, Regenerate Music and FOL Records. Sudan, who runs a monthly party called Medium Rare, also makes music under the alias Tyrell Dub Corp.
