- Out April 1st, the LP includes music from Kenya, Nigeria, Iran and the Pacific Islands.
Juba has curated a compilation celebrating femme producers from the Global South.
Out on April 1st, The Assurance Compilation spans ten tracks and features music from Kenya, Nigeria, Iran, Taiwan, Vietnam / Cambodia, Brazil, Namibia and the Pacific Islands. Musically, it covers amapiano, baile funk, Vietnamese folk, house, techno and more.
"Empowering and pushing women to the forefront is something that I'm really passionate about and that's why I knew I wanted to be part of this compilation," Maggie Tra, who features on the compilation, told Resident Advisor. "My journey as a producer and the music that I make is to push more women, in particular Asian women, to make music and express themselves through it."
The Assurance Compilation is the latest addition to Juba's Assurance project, which has so far includes a documentary about women DJs in Nigeria and a podcast series spotlighting women artists from the Global South.
"So many of the DJs that I spoke to [for the podcast] (and DJs in general) are also talented producers," Juba told RA. "So I thought it would be great to honour this talent by putting together a compilation of music from different women DJs across the Global South too. It's been a really rewarding process working alongside the artists and I think the compilation is one that creates a sense of borderless eclecticism with tracks from across the musical and geographic spectrums, some with clear messages and other just based around the groove."
