  • Chicago venue Primary is reopening next month for the first time in more than four years, 5Mag reports. On September 3rd, the club will host a reopening party featuring Ron Carroll, founder Derek Specs and Steve Gerard (who will go back-to-back), and a TBA guest. In a statement on Facebook in June 2017, Primary shared that the club had been closed temporarily due to electrical code violations the local council believed to exist within the building. "We believe we were unfairly and unjustly targeted due to the acts of another venue in our building but, nonetheless, our contractors are prepared to take immediate action to obtain the required permits and make the required repair," the statement said, "The plan is to be open soon so that we can continue to provide amazing dance music to our customers." Primary first announced its return back in March, and has since been providing weekly updates on social media about new residents, partnerships, mixes and merch. On March 8th, the club shared that a new four-point Meyer soundsystem has been installed ahead of the reopening. In the years between opening in 2012 and 2017's forced closure, Primary established itself one of Chicago's most popular dance floors, being voted "best electronic dance club" by Chicago Magazine in 2013. Over the years Primary hosted the likes of SOPHIE and Rustie, as well as label parties for Night Slugs and Hyperdub. At their in-house nights, Primary would welcome Chicago staples like Gene Farris, DJ Pierre and the late Paul Johnson, who, prior to his passing, was set to be a resident this time around.
