  • A new radio station will begin broadcasting out of London next week. Threads Radio is a new project based in independent Tottenham venue The Cause, which also houses Kristina Records, from some members of the 199radio team. A sister station, Threads*, will also open in Berlin, allowing room for international collaborations. Broadcasting begins on Friday, January 25th. Threads aims to promote "cutting edge music" while "engag[ing] with the community" and "providing a credible broadcast platform for local people to have airspace for their unique narratives," according to the press release. That involves not only promoting local musical talent but also hosting "socially and politically focussed talk-based content." Partners include charity The Hospice Biographers and Bubble Club, the accessible party for and by people with learning disabilities that successfully fundraised to remain active when Tower Hamlets council slashed their budget. The Cause will hold a launch party for Threads Radio ahead of its premiere, Thursday, January 24th. DJs include Ariadne's Labyrinth, Timothy J. Fairplay, Marie Malarie, Medallion Man and more, with live music, spoken word, and stand-up comedy also on the schedule. London recently got another new radio station, Foundation.FM, based in Peckham. Its mission is to "to put women at the forefront at every turn" in staff, programming, music selections and more.
