- After seven years in Dalston, the record store closed up shop at the end of August.
Two London music spots are joining forces.
Kristina Records, which announced last month that it would be leaving its home in Dalston at the end of August, is moving into The Cause in Tottenham. Kristina's owner Jason Spinks tells Resident Advisor about leaving Kingsland Road for Ashley Road: "Whilst I'm very sad about leaving Dalston after establishing the shop over the last seven years, I feel as though the area has lost a lot of its edge and vibrancy, and I'm feeling really positive about next chapter for Kristina Records—getting back to being the community based business, which is at the heart of what the shop is about."
The plan to bring Kristina to The Cause appeared almost by luck. Stuart Glen, co-founder of the new venue describes how it unfolded to RA: "Whilst walking my dog Joker last week, I noticed a sign in Kristina saying they were leaving the premises in a few days. I hadn't met Jason before, but bowled in, popped the question, and two days later we reached a deal. All done in a flash, and we are buzzing to welcome one of East London's best records stores up to The Cause and Tottenham. We're sure it's going to be a great match."
The Cause will host a party to celebrate the opening of the record store on Friday, September 14th, with DJs playing outdoors and a BBQ. Wolf Music and Richard Fearless, AKA Death In Vegas, will take to the decks through the day, among others. Tickets will be £5, with profits going to The Cause's charity partners, Mind In Haringey and C.A.L.M..
Spinks says the move will not be permanent and plans for a permanent home are still in the works. "In the meantime there are exciting discussions and plans ongoing for a new long term home for Kristina Records," he says. "But for now I'm extremely happy to be involved with The Cause and the scene that's developing in Tottenham."
