- The late producer's 2008 LP, which includes a cover of Pink Floyd's "Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun," has been given a new pressing.
Mika Vainio's Ø album Oleva is being reissued on Sähkö Recordings.
Oleva, originally released on Sähkö in 2008, was one of many classic records to come from Vainio—the influential Finnish producer and Pan Sonic member who died in April at age 53. The 12-track album, credited to his longtime Ø project, mixes stripped-down beats with dark ambient soundscapes in the artist's usual inscrutable style. It also features a cover of Pink Floyd's 1968 track "Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun."
Also on the way is a new vinyl release of Kolmio, a Sähkö-issued 1998 EP from Vainio's Philus moniker that employed a more straightforward techno-inspired approach. The reissues come amid the recent unearthing of a rarely-seen 1995 documentary on Sähkö.
Learn more about Vainio with our retrospective from April celebrating his wide-ranging output.
