  • A rare documentary about Finland's Sähkö Recordings will show at the ICA in London starting this Friday, July 28th. The film was directed by Finnish experimental artist Jimi Tenor. It's 44 minutes long and features a wide variety of artists from the label, including Mono Junk and founders Mika Vainio and Tommi Grönlund. It also features scenes of Vainio and others pressing records and making music on their own custom-built equipment. The film, officially untitled but known to fans as Sähkö The Movie, was only ever released on VHS in limited qualities by record label Blast First Petite. This new showing is co-presented by Boiler Room. Sähkö started in 1993 and became a crucial platform for Finland's electronic music scene, releasing music from Vainio and Tenor as well as outside artists like Atom TM, Madteo and Martin Rev. Mika Vainio died earlier this year, but the label is continuing on with Grönlund at the helm. For more info on showtimes, check out the ICA website.
