Lucien Foort - Slice!

  • Dutchman Lucien Foort has been around the dance music scene since it was a little baby back in the late 1980’s. First DJing at the age of 14, the Holland native has gone from spinning one afternoon at a friend’s house to becoming a global name on the club circuit. With remixes for labels such as Bedrock, Positiva, and React – coupled with productions under the alias Funk Function, it’s really no wonder why. After a successful round of dates in new destinations – both in the USA, Australia, and any other country with a pair of working turntables – Foort is about to hit it big time with his latest mix CD entitled “Slice!” for DJ Tiësto’s Black Hole Recordings. While dark, progressive music continues to get slagged by both clubbers and DJ’s more often than Michael Jackson in a television special, Lucien keeps things truly progressive with a mix leaning toward the housier side of progressive house. “Slice!” kicks off with Spincycle’s tech-flavored “Drug Games”, and works through such well known names in the production circuit as Mazi and Timo Maas. Elijah (a.k.a. Kevin Swain, David Snell, and Elly Wilson) truly define “Slice!” with their pounding release entitled “Deep Soul Music”. The track combines a simple piano riff over a massive bass line, all the time the track’s title loops in true vocal house diva style. Lucien Foort’s own “Old Skool House Musik” (under the alias Funk Function) peaks out the mix about half way through, and from there on out it’s a roller coaster the man has been known to ride during his highly acclaimed DJ sets. The compilation ends with a tribute to the 80’s sound via Silk’s “U Spin Me” – a song every listener should be quite familiar with. If there were to be any criticism of Foort’s mix it would be that his selection doesn’t really chart any new grounds. However, in a market flooded with boring, go nowhere mix CD’s, Lucien’s effort separates itself via choice tunes, flawless mixing, and a true “take the listener on a journey” experience from beginning to end. Expect to hear from Foort as he embarks on a breakneck global DJ schedule. When one sees the Dutchman with the wicked dreads take to the decks, WATCH OUT! – a storm is on the rise.
