- Despite a notorious aversion to publicity, there's not a lot we don't know about Moodymann's charisma, attitude and influences if you listen to his recorded music over the past decade-and-a-half. "Freeki Mutha F cker," the standout opener from 2008's Det.Riot '67 EP, is a perfect example. We're voyeurs to the steamiest of mating rituals as Moody huskily purrs dirty talk at his moaning hoes. This version here even adds some piano and dark atmospherics to the mix, accentuating Moody's foreplay skills and providing the post-coital cigarette missing from the previously released version.
Juan Atkins' remix consolidates his recent comeback, sounding closer to his work on R&S as Model 500 last year than his remix for Psychic Ills under his own name. Atkins' libido is comparatively mechanistic and direct against Moody's, shyly downplaying some of the slink in favour of a kinky robotic bump. Egyptian Lover entertains his own Freek in his remix, a lady who inevitably ends up being seduced away by Moody at what sounds like the Lesbi-Inn. Egyptian Lover's signature electro huffing might never be cast in a better cameo than this, and he uses his inimitable sense of humour and lithe drum programming to add a genuine '80s edge to an original already indebted to dance floors from that era.
