Bubble Club - Lonely Acid

  • Within the span of only a handful of eye-popping (sumptuous screen-printed sleeves) and ear-hooking releases, Bubble Club (both the label and the man) have become an imprint to watch. For Dan Keeling's third single under the moniker, "Lonely Acid" veers closer to the "Chicago house" tag in his webpage while also embracing pop. A melancholic yet soulful lyric sung by Beauty Room/ Kirk Degiorgio collaborator Simon Jinadu about "all the lonely faces" echoes across the track, at once plaintive and stirring. Bubble Club's own Takes a Trip mix shaves off most of the lyric entirely, favoring a faster pulse and caustic squelches that tease out BC's debt to harder techno as well as glossy Giorgio synthwork. Matching the quality cuts Bubble Club has released so far are the accompanying remixers, and choosing Brennan Green for his massive dub mix is inspired. Green drunkenly destabilizes the rhythm, accentuating the space surrounding each hit and slowly unearthing Jinadu's voice and a pliant guitar line. He then lets that mesmeric sloshing beat submerge it all.
