Red Star - West London feat. MC Spee

  • Following on from the continuing success of Pretender from the 10 Kilo Calling compilation, Red Star and MC Spee come out again with another breakbeat/2-step killer which should get the ragga heads jumping out of their seats and tearing up the dancefloor. This is Old Skool breaks madness at it's very best and should take people back to the early days of breaks... think Renegade Soundwave (who eventually became Red Star), Leftfield and the Prodigy in their early days. Side A. Track 1. Vocal Mix Starting off with a vocal sample that sounds like Cookie Monster on a ragga breaks tip. You could just imagine it - "Ooohh hash cookies... yumyumyumyum". Dub-infused breaks and a booming bassline kick in and start off this track. MC Spee basically goes off on the mike, singing in harmony with the ragga vocals then breaking into a rap later on. This track utilises four different breakbeat patterns and should definitely be getting all the rewinds. Side A. Track 2. Old Skool Mix Utilising some old skool breakbeat patterns. This mix goes back to the Renegade Soundwave type of sound and also loses Spee in the process. No matter, the rough ragga vocals are kept and the beats sound crisp. Side AA. Track 1. Breakneck Mix More for a breaks crowd than a 2-step crowd, this track gets the rolling breakbeats put into it - a really hyped up version of the other mixes. In the middle the beats and bass are muffled and build up to a climax, adding an interesting effect to the track in general. Side AA. Track 2. Criminal Beats Mix Very similar to the Old Skool mix. No matter which version is chosen to rock a party, this should rock the party! Breaks, Raagga, Dub, 2-step - call it what you want - this totally kicks subs
