- Supremely funkified label Splank has been increasing its artist roster recently with a few new signings, the first of which is breakbeat newcomer Strider. He's not short on the arcade references here with ‘Tiger Uppercut’ certainly packing a heavy punch, while Superstyle Deluxe deliver a remix which leans towards the b-boy end of the breakbeat spectrum.
The original mix is loaded with spaceship bleeps and effects and it’s held together tightly with a four to the floor disco drum break and an insanely catchy bassline which makes it sound really beefy and funky. On top of this Strider throws down vocal stabs and plenty of electro flavours for good measure. Towards the end, Strider arranges the beats with the different shuffle for a bit of variation before returning to the original groove. A bit repetitive but it certainly works wonders on the dancefloor.
As mentioned before, Superstyle Deluxe take a b-boy approach to their remix and incorporate really dirty bass drops, percussive licks teamed up with new vocal samples and scratching. Since the bassline makes the original sound very fat and funky, SSD pretty much leave it intact but not without passing it through a few effects and filters to make it sound fatter and dirtier. Not only that, they lay down a really manic electro synth to give the bassline melody an even sicker sound.
