Journeyman vs Barcode - Blood for Blood

  • Born Idle artists Journeyman and Barcode follow up their ‘Time 2 Unite’ 12" from 2005 with another dancefloor slammer in the form of ‘Blood For Blood’, displaying a lot of versatility in their sound. For remix duties, the emo-tech stylings of Baobinga & I.D. unleash their Big Monster alias on the tune for a much different take. The original places its aim directly toward the dancefloor with a very energetic breakbeat and a chopped up vocal hook that sounds quite similar to one that Soul Of Man used in one of their recent tunes. A dirty electro bass riff takes control of the bottom end with snippets of scratching and loads of techy filler. As the tune progresses an ascending acid line comes into play and the bass becomes even more aggressive with added squelchy noise. It's easy to entice a crowd onto the dancefloor with this as it has a lot of energy in it. The Big Monster remix on the flip incorporates a classic Baobinga & I.D. breakbeat loaded with plenty of tribal elements with the vocal samples arranged differently to give a deep, echoey effect. The bassline melody is altered to give the tune a deeper feel and this is certainly felt during the long breakdown in the middle. Unleashed to a wicked crowd response at Sydney's Kink/Broke'n'Beats nightclub where 30Hz & Baobinga recently toured!
