Swoop - Superlicious

  • Swoop aka Stephan Bodzin abandons his usual studio partners (Thomas Schumacher, Marc Romboy and Oliver Huntemann) for a second solo outing on Craft Music. Bodzin drafts in French electro maestro The Hacker to spice up his original. The 'Original Mix' is typical of Oliver Huntemann electro; it thuds along in fairly innocuous fashion before an arcane electro bassline and some serious synth work add grit. An interlude of swirling chords and melodies briefly shatter the pensive mood before the track intensifies, heading back into murky waters until close. Expect this to see support from DJs who like the dark German slant on electro. The more accessible 'The Hacker Remix' makes sparing use of the electro sound and dispenses with much of the original's darkness. A sprinkling of shinier synths and bubbling bass combine to give it a more spatial feel as occasional swells build the momentum and keep the energy from the original. Phil Kieran, DJ Touche and Umek have already given this release the thumbs up so expect to hear both mixes shaking up floors soon. For those looking to take things down a notch, The Hacker delivers a more spaced out mix.
