Nick K – U’r Ass Is Grass

  • Starting off is Hardknob Tribe which immediately presents great drums and electro tinged melodies while slowing building up the mood with sustained synths. Subtle drums and melodies play a big role in this tune as things stay gritty but keep a sense of rhythm. Squelches and bleeps make up the breakdowns and really assist in the drop back into the beat as all melodies go silent while the beat and drums cause havoc. Big tune! Next up is Citadella where we see the mood stroll further into electro with loads of added dirtiness. Rolling basslines and catchy melodies bring this tune into the peak time while giving a nice depth as sustained synths feature throughout. An old style voice sample plays over at a low level but is quickly overshadowed by the big electro hooks and striking drums. The breakdown features uplifting melodies and synths which lead nicely back into the electro hooks. Excellent big room tune. Space Dough takes a step back in intensity but makes up in style as smooth beats and rasping percussion create a little funk while quirky noises rain overhead. A nice bouncy melody sample accompanied by an equally great bassline add that little extra to the quality though the trumpet sample later on is a great addition. Undefined is a collaboration between Nick and 16 Bit Lolitas in which they showcase together a huge tune featuring a very distinct bassline sound with tight percussion and tripping bleeps. Sustained synths are a common element between Nick’s tunes and they certainly add depth to overlaying melodies and other elements. A nice rolling synth melody plays out midway and is featured nicely in the lengthy breakdown. All in all, this is a very impressive set of tunes from Nick. All tunes have a very distinct, original feel and never go over the top.
