Kennedy - Signal A5

  • Luxuriously deep house with a playful edge.

  • Once a year, Nick Verbakel emerges under the name Kennedy with a new 12-inch from the cosmic fringes of Amsterdam's house scene. With each release, the Red Light Records affiliate gets more whimsical (for example, the flute work on last year's Dream 3). His newest release, Other Phases Of Sleep, is his first away from his Dream Machine label and it's also his best work to date. Tapped by Pacific Northwest groove slingers Pacific Rhythm, Kennedy's EP—specifically "Signal A5"—is the perfect blend of deeper-than-deep feels and Fourth World kitsch. The muted chord progression induces a belly-tingling well of emotion before a series of chirpy synths duet over the loose drum fills, like watching a rom-com dubbed in robot chitter-chatter.
