- Montreal's Priori and Sydney's Cousin both had incredible years in 2023 making a similar sort of music: dubby and atmospheric techno heavily influenced by trance, prog house and sometimes drum & bass. This team-up feels only natural, and it also brings together the simpatico Canadian and Australian scenes by way of hyped labels NAFF and Animalia. It's an EP that wrapped up 2023 neatly with a bow. The main cuts "1" and "2" are captivating and a little mysterious—check the mutters and squawking bass beneath the elliptical broken beat on the latter—but the choice cut is "1 (Warm Dub)." Compressing the original's rollicking beat into a writhing, Deepchord-style shimmer, it's driven by tectonic basslines and a deeply buried kick drum. Both elegant and ultra-heavy, it has the detail-oriented soundscape you'd expect from both producers.
