  • If you wanted to pick one artist who is defining London dance floors right now, you'd do well to choose Amaliah. The UK DJ plays a mixture of house, techno, UK funky and other subgenres, and it's all united by a lean, tech house-inspired groove. That aesthetic comes to life on her debut EP on Moxie's On Loop label. Lead track "Helix" is a tribute to the country's golden era of tech house, with a loopy beat, tumbling bassline and rave sirens that wail in the distance. It's a big track, though everything feels small: the vocal samples, the faraway siren, the bobbing hand drums. The Reese-style bass lead underlines everything like a thick Sharpie line. "Me So" is what Perlon might have been if it was started in East London instead of Germany. The layered drums and bouncy low-end—along with the intricate cut-ups—remind me of Spacetravel or Ivan Iaccobucci, though the foundation of the track hops and skips with a UK funky style. "Spooky Dub" leans further on the UK tip, with a satisfying halftime breakdown that only makes the echoing vocals sound, well, spookier. The EP is rounded off with a typically imaginative Call Super remix of "Helix." They emphasise the hand percussion and descending bassline, crafting an elastic banger that sounds like a bit like baroque electro, all swung drums and gilded arpeggios.
