Chloé Robinson & DJ ADHD - 0121 Do One

  • Is it UK techno? Is it tech house? Chloé Robinson and DJ ADHD continue to turn out some of the most unusual dance floor tunes around.

  • Chloé Robinson has had quite a year. The Pretty Weird label boss took her label on the road, playing sold-out shows across the US and even a secret Beverly Hills Halloween party with Skrillex. Amid brushing shoulders with clubland royalty, Robinson and partner in crime DJ ADHD have found time to turn out their best music yet. Following on from last year's squiggly and spartan debut, the Steamin' EP, and a release for fabric Originals, the pair return with Do One, a similarly off-kilter and slanted take on contemporary bass music. Their tunes skirt the boundary between contemporary club, tech house and UK techno. On "0121 Do One," the stereo field is minimal and sparse, built around a syncopated snare and kick pattern at just over 130 BPM. Over this tech house scaffolding, the artists add a chopped vocal, bass oomphs and a synth that sounds like a piano crashing from the sky in an old cartoon. They've landed on a weird, groovy formula that'll sound just as good in a basement as it would shutting down Hollywood Boulevard.
