- Eurodance perfection.
- There's apparently a lot of people out there who are sick of hearing pop edits and Eurodance tracks in clubs this year. Marlon Hoffstadt was already ahead of the curve when he started his DJ Daddy Trance project in 2020, and now he offers a solution to the musical debate that has defined 2023: why not just make your own? "I Got You" feels like the culmination of years working hard at crafting the perfect Eurodance tune, and this one's got everything: a zingy one-liner in a strangely baritone voice ("Come on baby, just put the record on!"), a high-pitched vocal with lyrics that only make a little sense, pumping trance synths that go off between choruses like CO2 cannons.
More importantly, though, "I Got You" is exceptionally well-produced, combining the levity of Eurodance with the heft of modern, bona fide club music. The pacing is flawless, the bass is throaty and the vocals pitched-up just enough to sound altered without being ridiculous. There's also a current of melancholy running through it, the kind of happy-sad feeling that hints at the darkness that lurks below the surface of pretty much any clubbing experience, chemically induced or not. All of that layered into one basically perfect pop song makes for the kind of anthem that doesn't come around too often. It'll be a hard one to follow up, but with "I Got You," Marlon Hoffstadt has seriously found his groove.
