  • Following in the footsteps of fabric Originals, formative London dubstep night FWD>> has made the leap from party to label with the hope of building on its impeccable curation and reputation with brand new music. It debuts with Slimzee, Boylan and Riko Dan’s "Mile End," an archetypical dubstep thumper with familiar gunshot snares but without any saw waves or pulses. Instead, Slimzee and Boylan sample a looming string crescendo that's a bit like Godspeed You! Black Emperor in fast motion, which moves opposite to the viscous, nose-diving bass. Riko Dan is stoic in his attack on the mic, unloading short, sharp lines ("Father / Son dem") that make you feel as if you’re hurtling towards a meltdown at a frenetic pace. "Mile End" miht sound like the centre of an apocalypse, but in effect, Slimzee, Boylan and Riko Dan are picking up the pieces of the UK club institution for a new venture.
