  • In the queerer corners of clubland—in the dark rooms soundtracked by Planet Euphorique and Radiant Love—Eoin Ryan is a rising star. They made a name for themselves as a DJ, turning out mixes for respected podcasts like Animix and Oddysee, but they've left only a breadcrumb trail of productions along the way. A lush prog number with Byron Yeates here, some no-nonsense breaks for Rhythm Section International there. Now they finally turn in their debut EP, Fantasi, and it lives up to the hype, delivering four tracks of hedonistic and heavy club tunes. Fantasi is a bit more heads-down than some of their Planet Euphorique peers. Take record highlight "Pulsing Crystal." Low in the mix there are the sort of demonic moans and skittering melodies you might find in a Maara record, but the first half of the track is an electro slow burn, with a chunky bassline sashaying between 808s hits. Halfway through, they unleash a four-on-the-floor rhythm to let off steam, but rather than go for dewy-eyed trance, they lock into a sped-up tech house groove. This is the sound of a confident and exciting producer who has their own ideas about what to do at 140 BPM.
