- YS, a duo based in Berlin and Singapore, have a knack for grainy, dub-heavy music rooted in '90s nostalgia. Echoing the trip-hop of early Mo'Wax releases through spaced-out electro and lumbering techno, dub informs most of their productions. Even more raw cuts, like "The Future" off their debut 2020 EP, exude a hazy, languid mood with streaks of acid. Their latest record maintains their signature aesthetic of blurry poignance, honing in on cinematic IDM and downtempo experiments. Opener "Untethered" is a lovely slice of atmospheric jungle. Muffled and scratchy-sounding, it contrasts its introspective vibe with gymnastic, percussive loops, inviting listeners to press pause on being present and instead lose themselves in a liminal space.
