- Mike Dehnert is one of those techno producers so reliable you take him for granted (as far back as 2011, RA was describing his music and label, Fachwerk, as "consistent"). Denhert's output has slowed down in recent years, with his usual steady stream of techno 12-inches drying to a trickle. His latest EP, Testet, shows that even if the quantity has changed, the quality hasn't. Denhert's at his best when he takes the austere melodies of German techno and blends them with Midwestern groove, and "Workout" is the perfect case study. The drums have the energy and swing of vintage Chicago jack, getting as close to house as Dehnert ever ventures. The clipped and pulsing synthesizer buried low in the mix, however, adds a brutal techno bite. Ssome sounds never go out of style.
