Sweely - Time For Freakness

  • Sweely steps up to the mic, channeling his inner Dirk Diggler.

  • With every Sweely 12-inch, William Montana begs the question: can dance music get any sleazier? And with each release, he answers yes—yes it can. The title track from his latest EP for Pager Records, "Time For Freakness" is like a tech house Dâm-Funk track, with one of Montana's trademark basslines wiggles underneath chunky 80s chords and hip shaking drum programming. But really, it's the vocals that steal the show. One of Montana's signature tricks has been clever sampling and splicing of vocals, but here he actually jumps on the mic to give us an occasionally X-rated performance in the style of a Boogie Nights-era pornstar. The lyrics are appropriately cheesy as he gets a lover ready for an all night session on the shag carpet in the wood-paneled boudoir. It's another killer bit of retro funk from a producer who seems to have more fun than anyone.
