  • "Ideally, I'd elevate [the DJ booth] and move it into a corner of the room, almost like a nest," DJ Pitch said, when asked what his dream dance floor would look like for his RA Podcast. It’s not an entirely random question, since the producer has been giving a platform to other musicians and DJs for a long time. He founded the club night TT (FKA Tobago Tapes) back in 2014 as a solution to the lack of dance music events in his hometown of Watford, just outside London. That night soon became a label that he chased with another, more UK techno-centric imprint called All Centre in 2018. Both TT and All Centre have championed promising electronic producers like object blue, SHE Spells Doom and Toumba. By comparison, though, DJ Pitch's own music has always remained relatively hidden. (Something he's not helped himself with by changing his alias multiple times, shaving it down from Pitcheno to DJ P before finally landing on DJ Pitch, a name he expected to get lost in Google searches for pitch control.) His latest single is no different in that regard. Despite his best efforts to divert our attention to another All Centre newcomer, blu-e, and burying this single at the bottom of the tracklist, it's the mutant dancehall of "Agrippa" track that stands out on the label's latest EP. Taken from the name given to someone "born feet first" back in Roman times, "Agrippa" puts its best foot forward with a tough, marching rhythm and a moody brass melody. Steel drums—signalled by a perky hand whistle—brighten the mood, masking the horn's deflated blows and lifting it into something more upbeat and positive. It's a small quirk, but a meaningful one, just like the track's namesake.
