  • Nicholas G. Padilla is something like the unsung godfather of Miami's current scene. He was part of the crew that ran the fabled 229 Warehouse (where people like Jonny From Space and SEL.6 cut their teeth) and has been the driving force behind Miami Community Radio. Padilla is also a killer producer, as he demonstrates on "Contact," his contribution to the Miami Community Radio Volume 1 compilation. The low-end is a throwback to the early trap days of TNGHT, with snare rolls and pillow sub hits, but the melody shies away from the cotton candy sugar highs of the 2010s. Haunted and cautious synths duet with pulsing computer clicks and an elastic modulation, giving it a contemporary edge to match the best of Miami's new guard.
