- On IMOGEN's debut solo EP What? from last year, the London producer worked dark and spiky textures into her punk-flavoured techno and electro. It was the vibe of an artist who found their sound in the more rugged, gnarly ends of the dance music spectrum. On her new EP Albert Road, for Mall Grab's Steel City Dance Discs label, she strikes a more emotional and nostalgic pose on the final track, "true-blue." It's a melancholy breakbeat offering pitched at 137 BPM, built with cinematic chords, rolling Reese basslines, seraphic vocal snippets and strange zappy noises, bookended by a dramatic intro and outro. The warped atmosphere makes "true-blue" feel like an end-of-summer tune—a longing for warmer, carefree days.
