  • Cairo audiovisual collective MOSHTRQ launched in late 2021 with the goal of presenting regular club nights and live showcases that represent a wide spectrum of electronic music, including reggaeton, jungle, footwork and industrial. The group's first-ever compilation reveals just how diverse MOSHTRQ's palette is. From the grainy synthesis on Ambi's and Belahadaf's ambient offerings to Postdrone’s distorted breaks, MOSHKILA should appeal to both fans of deconstructed club music and avant-garde experimentalists alike. "يس (YS) Riddim" is a straightforward rap track, perhaps the record's most functional, but it still has some eccentricities. Alternating between bars in English and Arabic, Ramallah-based rapper Dakn opts for a grime-inspired flow to match MOSHTRQ member Azzouni's discombobulated drums. Alone, the instrumental is a a grime-inflected take on Bristol-style techno—cut-up, slowed down and warped. With Dakn's slick and convincing delivery, it's an exciting preview of more cross-genre collaborations to come out of Cairo.
