  • Jonny From Space turns a 20-year-old DMX Krew oddity into a sludgy techno barnstormer.

  • David Michael Cross was the name that DMX Krew used for an album of Europhilic, sci-fi-tinted synth pop focused around nuclear and technological anxieties. (It was called Cold War, after all.) The LP is being reissued by Turbo Recordings, and comes with a remix EP that brings highlights from the original album into a more contemporary context. Miami producer Jonny From Space shines on his rendition of the sputtering "Human Clones"—one of Cold War's jitteriest cuts—seizing on the original's nervy chug and refiguring it into deep, modern techno. The vocals are pitched down and clipped into guttural gasps, while grotty acid lines add to the sewer-crawling effect. It's a creative, unexpected turn from an obscure synth pop song from 20 years ago.
