  • Bruce Falkian is the made-up character and name of Vincent Destouet and Youssef Guettache’s collaborative project. It’s got a political edge to it that echoes the dadaist, surrealist and tropicália anti establishment movements of the early to late 20th century, which responded to the nonsense and misinformation of mainstream news and art with its own style of nonsense. For the project’s debut post-punk album on Parisian label Antinote, the duo recruit a handful of vocalists to rap and sing in Spanish, English and Iranian. Two of the album's most promising guests are Paul-Alexandre Islas (AKA Urami) and Naiara Triviño, who trade blows in Spanish over a marching drum beat on album highlight "OTD." Rolling Rs, growls and rallying cries from Islas stir up the song's brooding bass plucks before Triviño takes over, following the drums with commanding, militant verses. The contrasting styles of these two captures the unruly and subversive energy behind Bruce Falkian.
