  • Two years ago, Sunju Hargun released an EP about his cat Mooping, using ASMR recordings of its meows, chatters and eating noises. One might think the record would have leaned towards downtempo or ambient but instead, the Bangkok-based artist chose a dub techno style, replete with droning acid lines and tribal drums, for his feline companion. That EP record has now been remixed, or re-meowed, by various friends, including Tokyo vet Haruka. The original "Mooping" was a forest rave anthem. Haruka's rendition is just as powerful, but it's more playful, encouraging chilled-out dancing instead of acid flashbacks or reckoning with past lives. The staticky synths and bouncy drums are in conversation with one another, as if they were dancers in battle. Both versions invite listeners to lose their minds—but Haruka's definitely involves more movement.
