  • Primal Instinct is the new label from Berlin-based producer and DJ (and former mastering engineer) Chlär. The first release comes from Funk Assault, Chlär's collaborative project with Italian producer Alarico. Minimum One Post A Week ripples with head-nodding, 140 BPM-plus techno, and the most raucous track is the self-styled "That's The Funk Assault." The duo take vocals from the Beastie Boys' 1995 tune "Root Down," speeding up the original tempo of the hip-hop group's vocals to a pacier cadence, making the atmosphere feel hectic in the most fun way possible. Pairing rolling kicks with crispy hi-hats and the barest flashes of a staccato melody, it has all the makings of classic, reliable techno—with vocals that add some distinct swinging-from-the-rafters energy.
