  • Safety Trance—AKA Cardopusher—and DJ LOSER come together for an EP of explosive, apocalyptic trance-dembow fusions. NEXUS SIN starts with a blast of noise before descending into its staggered hardcore techno limp, distorted kick drums falling like boulders down a cliff. Distorted vocals and "Ventolin"-style gasps add to the cartoonish drama, and the track sits at a respectable two-minute runtime that makes it palatable—any more and it might be overkill. Still, overkill is kind of the theme here, and it works. "Essence Reaver" features more bounding kick drums and percolating trance synths, the circular chord progression forming a hypnotic swirl before the four-on-the-floor kick drums enter to rearrange your brain. It's both menacing and delightfully over the top. That leaves "Dreamshater," which is the best example of the dembow fusion, with the lilting bounce punctuated by stuttering kick drums over another doomsday, Lex Luger-esque melody. Instead of aggression for the sake of aggression, the seductive swing, sudden switch-ups and sense of humour make NEXUS SIN far more than the sum of its destructive parts.
