  • There's a pattern to Keepsakes' label HAVEN. Over the years, the Christchurch-based DJ and producer has supported talents on the up, releasing early productions from VTSS, Tommy Holohan and, more recently, adding Cressida, New Frames and Draugr to the catalogue. Sardonic Tonality, the latest compilation from HAVEN, features yet another rising star. Valerie Ace, who made her debut on SPFDJ's Intrepid Skin label last year, contributes a slice of squishy techno with a humorous touch. On "Fear Less," the Düsseldorf-based artist slinks a stuttering vocal that sounds like it's saying "ass" between breakneck-speed kick drums. Whispery and indecipherable vocals buzz around the soundscape, working in tandem with a Woody McBride-style acid melody. It's a peak-time track sprinkled with a bit of silly—perfect for a scuzzy dance floor.
