Konduku - Hayal

  • Konduku goes Nobu-core.

  • Konduku makes the kind of deep, atmospheric techno that can feel like it's rewiring your neural pathways, which makes him a great match for DJ Nobu and his Bitta label. But with the Hayal EP, he's gone a step further, and actually made a record that sounds like it was designed for Nobu to play. The title track, with its rattling filaments of sound and chugging drums, is exactly what Nobu likes, while the slightly detuned lead on "Zifir"—which is full of strange, eldritch noises—sounds like it was made for dancing to while dissociating. "Damla," too, is almost too trippy, with nervous drums and an unstoppable sense of forward motion, every synth sound and percussive pattern charging forwards, that makes it feel a bit like a chemical rush. (Not to mention the absolutely unreal things going on in the bass frequencies.) Then there's "Yakamoz," which could be Konduku's bid for an Afterlife gig, with its insistent, chirpy looping synth lead. Konduku still keeps a touch of dub on the drums, letting the snare skitter and ricochet across the musical measures. Nothing's quite as it seems on Hayal, an EP of liquid techno that refuses to stay still for longer than one bar.
